Holi-DIY Glitter Coasters from Francesca's

While holiday shopping on Black Friday this year, I found the CUTEST glitter coasters from francesca's. Being me, I took one look at them and said "I can make that". The ones sold in the store were a little nicer and made with resin, but I wasn't about to wait 2 days for the resin to set. These are super unique gifts that you can give to family or friends for the holidays, or make festive red and green ones to keep around your house. Since my color scheme is gold and white, I went with solid gold glitter.

For this project you need:

Pack of cork coasters

Glitter

OLD paintbrush. Emphasis on old, it will get gunky!

ModPodge

Clear nail polish (preferably one you don't use)

OPTIONAL: You could paint the coasters before glittering them, however I wanted the full glitter effect :)

First, cover one layer of ModPodge onto your coaster. Keep it pretty thin so that it dries quicker and there will be no bumpy glue spots when it dries.

Then go ahead and add the color of glitter that you would like for your coaster set. Again, keep the layer pretty thin but covering the entire surface area of your coaster.

Tap off the excess glitter onto the paper plate (so that you can pour it back into your glitter container, no wasting glitter here!) and wait a few minutes for the modpodge to dry.

After it dries, lightly paint another layer of modpodge on top of the glitter and repeat the process 2-3 times. Your paintbrush will be covered in glitter because it is just sitting on top of the modpodge, not sealed in.

Once you have finished all your layers and your coaster is something that a true diva would own, seal it with a layer of clear nail polish. I suggest using one that you don't mind getting glitter in, as again the glitter is just sitting on the modpodge instead of under it. The nail polish ensures that the water from cups will not soak through the glitter, and of course secures the glitter underneath so that there is not any "shedding". (Not that glitter around your house is a bad thing)

This is my finished product, and I LOVE it. I always try to think of gifts that I would enjoy getting myself, and this is definitely one of them. Play around with different glitter combos, you don't have to stick to one color! I only had one old coaster on hand and was running tight on time, but I plan on making a set for my family members. Send me pictures on twitter @xcelesterenex if you make your own set!

Happy Holidays!!
